North Star Collaborative

Laurel’s North Star Collaborative

Encouraging girls to Dream. Dare. Do.

Founded in 2008 The North Star Collaborative (NSC) began as a partnership between Laurel School and Warner Girls Leadership Academy, a public Pre-K–Grade 8 single-gender school in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District.

The goal of the Collaborative is to provide long-term access to resources and the academic support necessary for each North Star to obtain a four-year college degree. The cohort is comprised of young women who came to the Collaborative when they were enrolled at Warner as Third or Fourth Graders. Now, the North Stars, in Twelfth Grade or in their first year in college, attend Cleveland Public Schools, Cleveland-area public and private schools, or various colleges and universities. NSC seeks to inspire each North Star to fulfill her promise—intellectually, socially, emotionally and physically—and to better the world. The breadth and depth of our commitment to the cohort make the North Star Collaborative unique in the landscape of other youth development programs sponsored by an independent school in the United States.

As a longstanding member of the Greater Cleveland community, Laurel School knows girls—how they learn, think and feel. Through NSC, Laurel continues to champion girls in claiming their voices and developing as engaged citizens. Additionally, NSC has strived to foster socially conscious and action-oriented behavior in Laurel girls. This partnership has benefitted everyone involved.
