LCRG Dissertation Year Fellowship

The Dissertation Year Fellowship at Laurel’s Center of Research for Girls

provides an exceptional opportunity for advanced doctoral students to gain experience within an innovative independent school community while sharing their research process and outcomes. This 2026-2027 School Year fellowship is a collaboration between Laurel School and Laurel’s Center of Research for Girls (LCRG). Laurel School is an all-girls school (with a co-ed Early Childhood program) serving approximately 565 students from Early Childhood through Grade 12.

  • Focus of the Work

    The selected fellow will collaborate with Laurel’s Center of Research for Girls (LCRG) to focus their work on girls’ experiences in one or more of the following areas: relationships, learning, social-emotional development, or intercultural fluency.
  • Compensation

    The fellow will receive a stipend of $5,000 and reimbursement of travel costs for a visit in the fall to the Laurel School campus in Shaker Heights, Ohio to present their work and meet with the LCRG and school community.
  • Purpose and Expectations

    The primary purposes of this fellowship are to:
    • Support the scholarship of fellows who are advanced in their dissertation process.
    • Provide the Laurel School community, particularly students, with access to the fellow and their cutting-edge work.
    • Publish a research brief based on their dissertation topic through LCRG’s press.
    The fellow will be asked to provide two online class sessions per semester for Laurel students and/or faculty. The fellow may also make themselves available to students interested in their fields of study or to student organizations related to their research. There also may be opportunities for speaking engagements with the broader Laurel community.
  • Application Instructions

    Applications should be made online, to be reviewed by Co-Directors of the Center of Research for Girls, and should include  the following materials:
    1. A statement of interest (500-750 words) describing the appropriateness of the fellowship to your situation, your proposed focus of work in collaboration with LCRG, and your sense of what you will contribute to the intellectual life of the Laurel School community.
    2. A current résumé.
    3. An approved dissertation prospectus.
    4. A letter of recommendation from the chair of your dissertation committee, confirming your eligibility and providing their support for your application, emailed to LCRG@LaurelSchool.org.
